Counseling sessions are 45-55 minutes.
You will meet with your therapist weekly. You will reduce the number of times that you meet with your therapist when you have reached most of your counseling goals.
You should expect to speak to schedule a day and time to meet with your counselor. You should also expect to receive a number of forms via email. You will be asked to read those forms and return them prior to your counseling appointment.
You should expect to arrive a few minutes before your counseling appointment. After waiting in the waiting area, your counselor will greet you. During the session, an assessment will be conducted in which you will be asked a number of questions. Following the session, you and your counselor will discuss the next steps.
Many people find benefits in counseling. However, counseling is not a magic cure. While it can help you to gain new insight into yourself, make positive changes and reach your goals, it does not fix all of your problems.
All counseling sessions are confidential with the exception of your therapist being subpoenaed by a court or hearing of imminent danger to a minor, elder, or yourself.
Certainly, friends and family should be considered when in need they can definitely recommend good advice, however, a professionally trained therapist will be honest and will be equipped with a number of skills to ensure you stay on your path to recovery.
During therapy, you can talk about anything that affects you including anxiety, balancing work/life, political woes, sexual assault, relationship issues, grief, and fear.
Not all therapists have a couch and laying on a couch is a Hollywood perception of a therapy session and is not always the fact. The couch is just a tool to allow you to get comfortable, so too is sitting in a comfortable chair. Therefore, lying down is an option for you if you feel comfortable. However, most clients sit upright during their sessions.

Your therapist will not prescribe medication for you. However, in some cases, a person might benefit from medication in addition to therapy services. If your therapist believes that you could benefit from medication, they will discuss their recommendation with you.
The duration of your therapy depends on your goals and commitment to therapy.
